In celebration on their newest album, Happy Endings, Old Dominion held an iHeartCountry Album Release Party at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles on August 14. During the live event, Old Dominion performed a medley of new songs including “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart,” “Be With Me,” and “Still Writing Songs About You,” as well as fan favorites from their first album Meat and Candy, including “Break Up With Him” and “Song For Another Time.”
The album release party included a Q&A with Cody Alan, CMT and iHeartRadio host. When asked why “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” was the perfect lead single for Happy Endings, lead singer Matthew Ramsey said that they wanted to show that they had a bigger message to send and wanted to create their classic party song, but with a hidden message within. When asked about their collaboration with Little Big Town on “Stars in the City,” Ramsey joked that it was tight in the studio with all nine band members playing together.
Old Dominion, who recently toured with Kenny Chesney, said he taught them a lot, from how he engages his fans to how he runs his organization. Old Dominion also toured with Miranda Lambert, which they say had a very different vibe including a whole new group of fans that may not have had as much exposure to their music. The band has written songs for artists such as Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney, Sam Hunt, and agreed that they would also love to have Keith Urban or George Strait perform a song written by them. Old Dominion is currently promoting Happy Endings with a dive bar tour, going back to their roots with their fans in an intimate environment.
