Kicking off in June is the Los Angeles Times fifth annual Food Bowl, a monthlong festival celebrating Southern California’s culinary scene. This year’s lineup will feature a series of virtual and in-person events, including a curated restaurant guide, prix fixe menu offerings, patio dining activations across Los Angeles, online discussions with food industry leaders, plus a special weekend of dining events with The Times’ Restaurant of the Year and Gold Award honorees, respectively, Phenakite and Guelaguetza.

Curated by The Times Food staff, the dining guide spotlights 50 local favorites with an emphasis on new, under-the-radar restaurants and the best places for outdoor dining in and around the city.

Times Food Columnist Jenn Harris will host a discussion on women in the food industry with celebrity chef Carla Hall, restaurateur Bricia Lopez (Guelaguetza), chef Minh Phan (Phenakite, porridge+puffs) and natural wine distributor, Amy Atwood. · Food Bowl Patio Series, beginning June 11
Kicking off with signature cocktails during Pride Week, Food Bowl will present a series of patio pop-ups sponsored by Perrier. Additional activations will take place throughout June and July at restaurant and bar locations citywide, including Saikai Ramen, Nativo, Perle and more.
· Virtual Food Forum: Red Drinks for Juneteenth, June 15
Hosted by Donovan X. Ramsey, Times staff writer covering Black life in Los Angeles, this virtual discussion will explore the Black foodways of the Juneteenth holiday with Kevin Bludso (chef & owner, Bludso’s Bar & Que), John Cleveland (chef & owner of L.A. “BET Awards” will return LIVE, Sunday, June 27th, from the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live. Culture’s biggest night will celebrate the brightest stars across music, television, film, sports, and social impact.

Upon entering the space, inspired by the design studio from the show, all attendees will be given the chance to think like the world’s most elite fashion designers. Guests will choose their own fabrics and create a custom embroidered bandana with the help of a team of professional tailors and Lot, Stock & Barrel to bring their vision to life. They will also enjoy a 360 photo booth where they’ll be able to strike a pose with their creation and be captured at all angles via a slow motion video or animated gifs. Hot August Nights Returns for its 34th Celebration!
Hot August Nights, the week-long celebration dedicated to classic cars and classic music, returns for its 34th year starting July 30, 2021. Picking up from the 2020 postponement, since 1986 thousands of classic cars and car lovers from near and far descend on the Reno-Tahoe region to participate in one of the largest annual classic car events in the world.
The must-attend event kicks off Friday, July 30 in the historic mining town of Virginia City, Nevada, located 23 miles from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The main street is lined with registered cars for a Classic Car Show-n-Shine for spectators of all ages followed by a late afternoon cruise and an awards presentation Saturday, July 31.
The main 2021 event in Reno-Sparks starts Tuesday, Aug. 3 and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 8 with the final cruise in downtown Reno, known as the grand finale parade beginning at 10 a.m.
Official registered cars are capped at 6,000 for the main Reno-Sparks event with currently less than 2,000 available spots open and the Virginia City kickoff is sold out with 400 registered classic cars. Car registration for the Reno-Sparks portion remains open until the limit is reached. Register online at HotAugustNights.net. Pending availability, onsite registration takes place at the Silver State Pavilion located inside the Grand Sierra Resort for locals starting Monday, Aug. 2 and is open to all walk-ins Tuesday, Aug. 3.

The Television Academy unveiled a vibrant new design for this year’s Emmy ® Awards key art.
The elegant and striking design is inspired by the grandeur of the Emmys and what the awards represent to the television industry. It features a dynamic “light fall” showering down around the iconic Emmy statue and onto the stage hosting the year’s biggest night of television.
The new key art will be utilized across multiple platforms including the Television Academy’s website, print and online advertisements, collateral materials, on-air promos, and motion graphics.
The 73 rd Emmy Awards will be broadcast live, Sunday, Sept. 19 (8:00-11:00 PM, Live ET/5:00-8:00 PM, Live PT) on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
