Kicking off in June is the Los Angeles Times fifth annual Food Bowl, a monthlong festival celebrating Southern California’s culinary scene. This year’s lineup will feature a series of virtual and in-person events, including a curated restaurant guide, prix fixe menu offerings, patio dining activations across Los Angeles, online discussions with food industry leaders, plus a special weekend of dining events with The Times’ Restaurant of the Year and Gold Award honorees, respectively, Phenakite and Guelaguetza.

Food Bowl highlights will include:

· L.A. Times Spring Restaurant Guide, online now
Curated by The Times Food staff, the dining guide spotlights 50 local favorites with an emphasis on new, under-the-radar restaurants and the best places for outdoor dining in and around the city.

· Virtual Food Forum: Women in Food, June 9
Times Food Columnist Jenn Harris will host a discussion on women in the food industry with celebrity chef Carla Hall, restaurateur Bricia Lopez (Guelaguetza), chef Minh Phan (Phenakite, porridge+puffs) and natural wine distributor, Amy Atwood. The panel will take place via Zoom at 6 p.m. PT. Registration is available now.

· Food Bowl Patio Series, beginning June 11
Kicking off with signature cocktails during Pride Week, Food Bowl will present a series of patio pop-ups sponsored by Perrier. Additional activations will take place throughout June and July at restaurant and bar locations citywide, including Saikai Ramen, Nativo, Perle and more.

· Virtual Food Forum: Red Drinks for Juneteenth, June 15
Hosted by Donovan X. Ramsey, Times staff writer covering Black life in Los Angeles, this virtual discussion will explore the Black foodways of the Juneteenth holiday with Kevin Bludso (chef & owner, Bludso’s Bar & Que), John Cleveland (chef & owner of L.A. Times 2020 Gold Award honoree Post & Beam), Kim Prince (chef & owner, Hotville Chicken) and Ray Anthony Barrett (Cinqué). The panel will take place via Zoom at 6 p.m. PT. Drive-In To Erase MS @ Rose Bowl Stadium

On Friday, June 4 Nancy Davis’ Race to Erase MS Drive-In Gala will return to LA’s Rose Bowl Stadium for an amazing evening of musical performances, moving presentations, and rallying together to help find a cure for this life-altering disease. Gate will open at 6:30 pm. Show will start at 7:30 pm. Please arrive on time.

This year guests will be treated to an outdoor celebration, safely
socially distanced, headlined by the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire. The renowned band will rock
the bowl with a full set and help raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis, this life-
altering autoimmune disease. The landmark event will also boast a Spring/Summer 2021
runway show from Hollywood-favorite fashion brand alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet.

Notables confirmed to walk include Cassie Scerbo, Harlow Jane, Marta Pozzan, Natalie Alyn Lind, Oana Gregory, Sterling Monett, Vanessa Marano, Dave and Tonya Winfield, and Arielle Winfield will be walking.

Safety for our guests, talent, crew and staff is of the utmost importance. The venue and
production company are following the strictest guidelines implemented by all local and state
health standards and safety regulations. At present time, all guests are required to stay in their

BET Awards @ Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live

“BET Awards” will return LIVE, Sunday, June 27th, from the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live. Culture’s biggest night will celebrate the brightest stars across music, television, film, sports, and social impact.

Returning with a live show audience, BET also announced that vaccinated individuals can register starting May 27th for consideration to be a part of the 2021 “BET Awards”. BET will work closely with Los Angeles County to support community vaccination efforts and ensure adherence to COVID-19 protocols. The official 2021 “BET Awards” nominations are to be announced at a later date.

Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET will oversee the 2021 “BET Awards” and serve as Executive Producer along with Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment.

Hollywood Bowl Hosts Pop-Up Vaccination Clinic @ Hollywood Bowl

FREE COVID-19 VACCINES will be available and administered at the Hollywood Bowl (outdoors, at the Monique and Jonathan Kagan Patio) to all who are eligible (12+ years of age). Walk-ups welcome!

This will happen on Sunday, June 27, 2021 10:00 AM–2:00 PM PT. (NOTE: 2nd dose clinic scheduled for Sunday, July 18, 2021)

ALL PERSONS 12 YEARS & UP ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A COVID-19 VACCINE. Minors under the age of 18 must come with a parent or guardian for consent. Vaccines are free and available to all regardless of insurance, immigration status or residency.

You will not be asked about your immigration status when you get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Bring: Any proof of identity (expired OK).

Parking is free. Enter the main entrance of the Hollywood Bowl, off Highland Avenue.

The first 400 individuals vaccinated (1st or 2nd dose) at this clinic will receive a voucher for a pair of tickets to a 2021 concert at the world-famous Hollywood Bowl! The voucher may be redeemed for the concert tickets that same day at the Box Office on site. A selection of concert dates and performances will be available.

Those vaccinated after the first 400, as well as those already vaccinated (bring proof of vaccination), will be entered into a random drawing for 100 pairs of tickets to a 2021 concert at the Hollywood Bowl.*

Recipients 18 and older may select either the Pfizer (1st and 2nd doses) or the Johnson and Johnson (single dose) vaccine. Those under the age of 18 will receive the Pfizer vaccine (1st and 2nd doses).

* No purchase necessary. 1 entry per individual. Previously vaccinated individuals may enter by showing your completed vaccination card at the Hollywood Bowl. Drawings for tickets will take place on Monday, June 28, and Monday, July 19.

Amazon Prime Video’s Making the Cut: Season 2 Pop-Up Experience @ Westfield Century City – The Atrium

To celebrate the season 2 release of Making the Cut, hosted and executive produced by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, Amazon Prime Video is debuting the ultimate fashion-forward pop-up experience at Westfield Century City’s The Atrium from Friday, July 23rd through Sunday, July 25th in collaboration with Singer, Covergirl and Fabric.com.

This free event gives consumers and style savants the opportunity to step into the world of Making the Cut. Upon entering the space, inspired by the design studio from the show, all attendees will be given the chance to think like the world’s most elite fashion designers. Guests will choose their own fabrics and create a custom embroidered bandana with the help of a team of professional tailors and Lot, Stock & Barrel to bring their vision to life. They will also enjoy a 360 photo booth where they’ll be able to strike a pose with their creation and be captured at all angles via a slow motion video or animated gifs. Before strutting away, guests will also receive a fashionable goodie bag that includes stylish items such as a limited-edition Making the Cut sewing kit and more.

Hot August Nights Returns for its 34th Celebration!

Hot August Nights, the week-long celebration dedicated to classic cars and classic music, returns for its 34th year starting July 30, 2021. Picking up from the 2020 postponement, since 1986 thousands of classic cars and car lovers from near and far descend on the Reno-Tahoe region to participate in one of the largest annual classic car events in the world.

The must-attend event kicks off Friday, July 30 in the historic mining town of Virginia City, Nevada, located 23 miles from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The main street is lined with registered cars for a Classic Car Show-n-Shine for spectators of all ages followed by a late afternoon cruise and an awards presentation Saturday, July 31.

The main 2021 event in Reno-Sparks starts Tuesday, Aug. 3 and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 8 with the final cruise in downtown Reno, known as the grand finale parade beginning at 10 a.m.

Official registered cars are capped at 6,000 for the main Reno-Sparks event with currently less than 2,000 available spots open and the Virginia City kickoff is sold out with 400 registered classic cars. Car registration for the Reno-Sparks portion remains open until the limit is reached. Register online at HotAugustNights.net. Pending availability, onsite registration takes place at the Silver State Pavilion located inside the Grand Sierra Resort for locals starting Monday, Aug. 2 and is open to all walk-ins Tuesday, Aug. 3.
