The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards kicked off awards season at the Beverly Hilton on January 6, 2019. Hosted by actors Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, the star-studded event celebrated the best in film and television. Netflix ruled with Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma win and Chuck Lorre’s The Kominsky Method won best comedy prize and best actor in a TV comedy for Michael Douglas. Gianni Versace claimed the best-limited series award and best actor in a limited series for Darren Criss.
On the film side, Bohemian Rhapsody and star Rami Malek won best drama and best actor in a drama. Green Book topped the night with three awards including best comedy, while fan favorite, A Star Is Born went home with just one award, for best original song. The night’s honorees included Jeff Bridges who was honored with the Cecil B. de Mille Award, and Carol Burnett who received the inaugural Carol Burnett Award.
This year, the Golden Globes debuted a new, sleek redesigned Golden Globe Award trophy. The new 24-carat gold-plated design retained the heritage and history of the previous iconic Golden Globe with wrapped filmstrip accolade married with modern touches. The most innovative aspect of the award redesign is the addition of an NFC component showcasing the name of the winner, the category and the year.
