The Television Academy awarded the 69th Emmy Awards, recognizing excellence in primetime programming and individual achievement for the 2016 – 2017 television season live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted by Emmy Award Winner Stephen Colbert, the telecast featured 27 awards, presented by celebrated performers from television’s most acclaimed shows including Alec Baldwin, Viola Davis, Anna Faris, Jane Fonda, Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, and Reese Witherspoon.
Big Little Lies was a big winner along with Saturday Night Live. Lena Waithe made history as the first black woman to win for writing in a comedy series and Donald Glover was the first black man to win directing in comedy. Also, Hulu became the first streaming service in history to win a Primetime Emmy Award in the Best Series category for its critically acclaimed breakout drama series The Handmaid’s Tale. The week was event-packed leading up to the Emmys, filled with celebs at the hottest events attending the coolest parties. The Emmy’s Governor Ball “Golden Grandeur”
Italy’s most awarded bubbles, Ferrari Trento returned as the Official Sparkling Wine of Emmy Awards season for the third consecutive year. The Academy welcomed over 4,000 famous actors, producers, directors, and VIPs to this year’s Governors Ball, themed “Golden Grandeur”. Patina Catering provided the bites, while Sterling Vineyards poured its new luxury Cabernet Sauvignon in the Winner’s Circle where Emmy winners had their statuettes personalized. Guests also enjoyed Hilhaven Lodge signature Emmy cocktails and flutes of sparkling wines including Ferrari Brut NV, Ferrari Rosé NV, Ferrari Perlé, and Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore. Emmy winners in attendance included Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sterling K. Brown and Alec Baldwin as well as nominees James Corden, Susan Sarandon and Thandie Newton.
Audi Emmys Kick-Off
Audi, the official automotive partner and vehicle provider of the 69th Emmy Awards, hosted its annual pre-Emmy event to kick off Emmys weekend. Celebrating outstanding talent in television, the exclusive red carpet rooftop event was held at The Highlight Room at Dream Hollywood. The 2018 Audi R8 made a special red carpet appearance, while VIPs including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tessa Thompson were chauffeured in 2018 Audi vehicles to the exclusive celebration. BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) celebrated Emmy weekend with their annual TV Tea Party. Launched in 2003, the TV Tea Party is one of the most prestigious events in the annual awards calendar. The event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and celebrated excellence in television by honoring this year’s nominees from the UK, US and beyond. Emmy Nominees, celebrities, BAFTA members, and leading television executives enjoyed traditional British tea, scones and cocktails, as BAFTA Los Angeles raised awareness and support for its Access for All campaign. Celebs in attendance included Evan Rachel Wood, Tracee Ellis Ross, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, and many more.
The Hollywood Reporter Emmy Nominees Party
The Hollywood Reporter and SAG-AFTRA hosted a kick-off to Emmy weekend with their inaugural Emmy Nominees Night party at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.
