New York Fashion Week came and went but if you didn’t blink, you probably caught it. As Fashion Week makes its way around the world we’ve compiled a list of our favs just to be sure you’re caught up with the trends. Whether it’s repurposing closet staples or underwear becoming outerwear, you’re bound to find something you love from our roundup of must-have women’s spring fashion trends.
Colored Velvet
The colored velvet trend is sure to stick around for all of 2017 as it’s perfect in some form during every season. Colored velvet has celebrities and models alike looking like royalty and the best part is, it doesn’t have to come with a royal price tag. High-end designers such as Jason Wu and Tibi had their models strutting down the runway in bright blue’s, vibrant yellows and everything in between. You can find pieces such as dresses or tops made with colored velvet at more affordable stores such as Shop Snob Mode and TopShop.
Bralette’s
Underwear is officially the new outerwear. Bralette’s are here to stay and they have slowly but surely transitioned into full-blown tops as opposed to an item cheekily shown under a tank top. Alexander Wang and Victoria Beckham are just a couple designers that premiered bra tops in their most recent collections but you can probably thank trendsetters like Rihanna and models such as Joan Smalls for making this bold move the norm. Not ready to fully make your bra a shirt? Ease into it by wearing a sheer top over it.
Repurposed Button Down
Once you hit adulthood there are a few items that are a staple in your wardrobe. A crisp white button down is one of them. The boyfriend button down has been made popular over the last few years and now, women should buy these shirts even larger to wear them as a dress or a chic off-the-shoulder number. If money isn’t an object then 3.1 Phillip Lim is a definite contender on which brand to go with. Shopping on a budget? Try Lucky Brand for an affordable option.
Stripes
This hot trend is so popular that it made our Men’s List as well. Twinning with bae? It could work if you’re into that sort of thing. Whether it be banker stripes or bold colorful ones, STRIPES ARE IN. Catch this look on the runways of DKNY, Rag & Bone, and even Self-Portrait. Hot celebrities like Yara and Naomie Harris got the memo at the recent SAG Awards. It can be a shirt, suit, or pants but either way, you’re sure to look sophisticated and stylish.
Trench Coats
Spring may be around the corner but the word on the street is that we have an extra six weeks of winter. Creatures of the Wind, Burberry, and Mango are just a few of the designers that want to make sure we keep warm while being stylish at the same time with a fashionable trench coat. Gabrielle Union and Kerry Washington both rock this look on and off the screen. Luckily you can dress a trench coat up or down by pairing it with jeans and a tee or by wearing it over a dress.
Be sure to shop on these trends before they’re gone and tune in next week for more must-haves, on The StyleList.
