Color melts and ombrés were the biggest summer hair trend last year and are still a popular trend, but this summer it’s all about the intensity of colors to be tamed from bold and vibrant to softer pastel shades. Master Colorist and Colorist Educater, Renee Taglia is applying this new look to her extensive clientele. With over 14 years of experience in the transforming hair color industry and impressive work for Wella Salon Professionals, Renee is ahead of the game when it comes to hair color. Here are four of her favorite hair color trends to look out for this summer.
Specular Highlights- These highlights share many similarities with Balayage. Balayage features vertically painted highlights, while Specular Highlights are painted horizontally. This application results in a mirror-like reflection of light. Olivia Palermo always stands out and shines with highlights like these.
Oxidized Metal- This soft permeated look mimics the scientific process of oxidation. Oxidized metal will elevate the essence of natural colors to the next level and beyond. This process compliments the skin tones of natural brunettes, as well as gently transitioning blondes to darker tones. Jennifer Lopez glows in her honey oxidized hair.
Platinum Blonde- This icy shade was first seen in the romantic comedy Platinum Blonde in 1931. Platinum brightens up fair skin tones and adds a natural glow to warm skin tones, as well as working with most hair types. This leaves no surprise that “blondes really do have more fun”. Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguillera are a perfect example of this.
Pantone’s Color of Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity- This past year hair colorists have been introduced to the new softer tones of Rose Quartz and Serenity, Pantone’s Color of the Year. Pantone is the world-wide authority on color and is influenced by a variety of different industries from graphic arts to industrial design. This trend leads to the stunning appearance of Denim and Opal hues. If you’re looking to add a pop of spontaneity, this is a must hair trend to try out. Cara Delevingne looks like a mermaid in this opalescent look.
