Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 72nd Primetime Emmys from inside an empty Staples Center in Los Angeles with nominees streaming virtually from at-home setups around the world. “Schitt’s Creek” swept all the comedy categories and broke a record with seven Primetime awards and nine Emmys in total in the comedy categories, while “Succession” took home the top honor for drama with five awards.
A record number of Black actors snagged acting trophies for the 72nd Primetime Emmys, with seven taking home statues. The winners included Regina King who won outstanding lead actress in a limited series or television movie for her role “Watchmen;” her co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II whose outstanding supporting actor in a limited series or movie marked his first Emmy win and Uzo Aduba who won outstanding supporting actress in a limited series or movie. Zendaya also accepted the statue for best actress in a drama series breaking a record to become the youngest to win outstanding lead actress in a drama for her role as a troubled teen in “Euphoria”.
Other winners included:
Julia Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Strong, and entertainment mogul Tyler Perry who was honored with the Governors Award for his work in television. Singer-songwriter and GRAMMY-winning artist H.E.R. also made her Emmy debut with a special “In Memoriam” performance.
Although all the pre-Emmy events were canceled this year, Debbie Durkin hosted a ‘Drive-Thru’ EcoLuxe Lounge at The Beverly Hilton. Guests received gifts from Meraki Allure, MO’ Eyewear, KOZ Water, John Paul Pet Products and a brunch-in-a-box to go!
