TreePeople hosted its 31st annual outdoor gala fundraiser An Evening Under the Harvest Moon at its headquarters in Coldwater Canyon Park on October 6. Guests enjoyed dinner under the stars and a live auction which included a 7-night stay at Vidanta Mexican Resort, Wine Tasting at Moraga Bel Air, private dinner with Andy Lipkis catered by Schaffer’s, and a private outdoor movie night at TreePeople’s S. Mark Taper Amphitheater. VIPs and celebs in attendance included Style & Society’s Kinya Claiborne, Molly Shannon, Aliyah Moulden, and more.
The celebration honored Irmelin DiCaprio with the Evergreen Award for Visionary Leadership. Irmelin and her superstar son, Leonardo, formed the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, a platform for environmental causes reaching a social media community of 60 million people worldwide. Irmelin also produced “The 11th Hour,” a documentary interviewing concerned environmentalists, including TreePeople founder Andy Lipkis. Additionally, in the spirit of TreePeople, Irmelin and her friends transformed a barren 4.5-acre West Hollywood hillside into a drought-resistant sanctuary of plants and trees for birds, bees and other indigenous wildlife.
TreePeople has been a leader in making Los Angeles green and sustainable through grassroots community organizing and government collaborations, with a commitment to create a climate-ready, water-secure Los Angeles including equitable tree canopy for present and future generations. Founded by Andy Lipkis in 1973, TreePeople is one of California’s largest independent environmental organizations. To date, TreePeople has involved more than 3 million Los Angelenos in the planting and caring of over 3 million trees in forests, urban neighborhoods and school campuses.
