An annual celebration of the Southern California culinary scene, Los Angeles Times’ The Taste returned to the Paramount Pictures Studios backlot Labor Day weekend. Savoring the last days of summer, the 2018 Taste food festival was hosted by The Times Food staff Amy Scattergood, Jenn Harris and Noelle Carter. The Taste was previously co-hosted by Gold, who died July 21 of pancreatic cancer.
The Los Angeles Times honored late restaurant critic Jonathan Gold with several tributes at Taste food festival during Labor Day weekend. At this year’s event, attendees took photos in front of a silhouette of Gold at Cafe L.A. Times. There was also a light installation displaying his Five Rules for Dining in Los Angeles. Many participating restaurants, including Faith & Flower, Pacific Dining Car, Herringbone and Chiguacle Sabor Ancestral de Mexico, also honored Gold at the Taste with special dishes inspired by him.
Festivalgoers enjoyed unlimited tastings over three individual events spanning from the region’s best kitchens, a variety of wine, beer and cocktails, demonstrations and seminars. Stella Artois provided guests a taste of Europe by hosting Café Artois, a space to slow down and savor each festival moment where guests enjoyed cold Stella Artois in their cozy café along with perfectly paired food bites.
Los Angeles Times The Taste partnered with several organizations to help raise awareness about hunger, food waste and sustainability. They are supporting local partners through monetary contributions (L.A. Regional Food Bank and Collins College of Hospitality Management) and working with restaurants and attendees to compost as much waste as possible, rather than sending it to a landfill (Zero Waste Co).
