In the summer, it’s not just the weather that’s heating up. The trends in beauty also skyrocket as people leave their coats and cardigans behind and dust off their favorite wardrobe staples. While the summer is definitely a time to have fun, the strong sun can wreak havoc on your skin, so a strong beauty routine is a must! Whether you’re spending this summer at the beach or just enjoying the longer days with your friends at home, here are five summer beauty tips that will help you stay sun-kissed and beautiful throughout the warmer months ahead.
Tip 1: Get Serious About Your Skin!
A lot of people say winter is the harshest time for the skin, but it’s actually summer! While the cold air can leave skin dry and flaky, that’s nothing compared to the hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and sunburns of the summertime! Just because winter is over, doesn’t mean it’s time to skip your skincare and jump right into the closest pool. You’ll need to protect your skin against the hot sun and the damp air.
Despite the warm weather, your focus needs to primarily be on hydrating the skin. I know, I know, that doesn’t seem like it makes sense. If it’s hotter, shouldn’t you need less moisturizer? Nope! Because heat dehydrates the body, your skin is still likely to suffer from dryness. A good moisturizer will form a barrier between your skin and pollutants, bacteria, or even sunburn! To avoid that oily summer skin feeling, choose a moisturizer or face mask that is oil free. Water-based moisturizers are the perfect amount of hydrating without feeling heavy! Most importantly, choose a moisturizer with sunscreen to ensure you’re extra protected!
Tip 2: Take Care of Your Nails
Your nails are easy to neglect in the summer. Between hanging out with friends and late-night events, it’s easy to overlook this important part of your beauty regimen. The sun’s rays are known to dehydrate nails, and that can lead to dry and flaky nails. Not a good look! Use oils and moisturizer on your nails and cuticles to keep them hydrated. Consider using a gel polish to keep them strong and looking great all summer! Gel nail polish lasts several weeks without damaging your nails or chipping, and it’s perfect for the carefree months!
Tip 3: Treat Your Hair
Humidity is bad news for hair! Anyone prone to frizzy, dry hair knows the woes of summertime when your hair becomes even worse than usual. The best way to protect your hair during the summer is to use conditioning treatments regularly. While you can get this done professionally at a salon, you can also deep condition at home. All you need is your favorite conditioner and a shower cap. Apply the conditioner generously to your hair and let it sit for up to an hour under your shower cap! Then, wash it out as usual! Your hair should be soft and nourished! Deep condition at least once a week to keep your hair feeling its best.
Tip 4: Go Light with Your Makeup
In the colder months it’s fun to explore bolder, rich shades for your daily makeup looks. In the summer, your natural sun-kissed glow might be all you need to look great every morning! To stay on-trend, opt for lighter shades and neutral colors. It’s all about looking natural! Choose light pinks, corals, and neutral colors to compliment your latest tan!
Are you struggling to keep your makeup in place? We all know how frustrating it is to literally feel your makeup melt off your face when it’s hot out. To fight this melting sensation, use a strong primer and a makeup setting spray. A good primer and setting spray in the summer goes a long way! The same goes for eye makeup! A shadow primer and waterproof makeup will keep your look in place all day long!
Tip 5: Protect Your Kiss
Who doesn’t dream of a summer fling? Protect your lips by making lip care a foundational element of your summer beauty routine. Because the skin of your lips is naturally very sensitive, the heat of summertime can damage delicate lip tissue. Nobody wants dry, chapped lips! Find a great colored lip balm with SPF and use it generously every day to make sure your lips are perfectly kissable all summer long!
