This week on the StyleList, we kicked off spring by hosting a STYLE & SOCIETY Garden Party with a few of our influencer friends and favorite brands, we also traveled to Guadeloupe for a taste of the French-Caribbean, and we celebrated race day fashion at the Santa Anita Derby.
STYLE & SOCIETY Garden Party
Kinya Claiborne hosted a STYLE & SOCIETY garden party to celebrate the start of spring with a few of her influencer friends, hotels and some of her favorite brands. More than 200 guests enjoyed food, craft cocktails, wines tasting, shopping, gift bags, photo booth and more! Attendees even indulged in free beauty treatments including massages, spray tans, manicures, hair styling and makeup. She caught up with a few of her girlfriends for the dish on their top spring fashion tips and travel plans.
Guadeloupe Travel Adventure
Although most North Americans would have trouble pointing out the Guadeloupe Islands on a map, the butterfly-shaped islands are one of the French Caribbean’s best-kept secrets. Sandwiched between Antigua and Dominica, Guadeloupe is also the filming location for the popular TV series Death in Paradise.
A blend of New Orleans and the French Riviera, travelers in-the-know visit these French-speaking islands to enjoy the creole cuisine, colorful festivals, museums and historic landmarks. A mix of French and African history also runs deep throughout the Guadeloupe Islands and the Afro-Caribbean culture influences the food, architecture, music and clothing.
Getting there is easy! Norwegian Air offers cheap 3-4 hour nonstop -flights from New York City, Providence, Rhode Island, and Fort Lauderdale.
StyleList Select – Santa Anita Derby Day
We went to Santa Anita Park to celebrate the 81st annual Santa Anita Derby. For more than 80 years, Santa Anita Park has set the stage for the most dramatic moments in thoroughbred racing, where legendary racehorses like Seabiscuit, American Pharoah, California Chrome and this year’s $1-million winner Justify, crossed the finish line to victory. Hot off a recent $40 million renovation, the park features luxury suites, a revitalized Art Deco design and a redesigned Chandelier Room.
LA’s biggest thoroughbred horse race day of the year, the Santa Anita Derby celebrates race day in style. This year Kinya Claiborne served as a judge in the Derby Day Best-Dressed Fashion Contest, where contestants showcased their best derby day fashion including big hats, seersucker suits, spring dresses, fascinators, for the chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes including jewelry along with luxury vacations to Madrid and Abu Dhabi.
We also attended the Sheikh Mansoor Arabian Festival, a private event celebrating Santa Anita’s relationship with Sheikh Mansoor of Abu Dhabi by bringing Arabian racing to Los Angeles. Every year, this festival hosts 500 people from around the world with great influence in the Thoroughbred Racing and Arabian Racing industry for a week in Los Angeles.
