Thompson Chicago, the luxury lifestyle hotel in Chicago’s Gold Coast, is featuring a Takashi Murakami installation in the hotel’s lobby and offering exclusive guest perks to go along with it. Organized in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago in honor of their ‘Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg’ current exhibit, Thompson’s display features two original Murakami prints signed by the artist and reserved specially for the hotel.
Taking the guest immersion to a deeper level, the hotel curated an exclusive Thompson Murakami Experience package featuring discounted hotel stays, hands-on classes at Chicago’s Hyde Park Art Center, a Murakami poster souvenir, a shopping discount at the MCA Store, and reduced-price tickets to the MCA Murakami exhibition.
Takashi Murakami, known as the “Japanese Warhol,” is one of the most influential and creative artists working today. Named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People,” he is credited with blurring the lines of high and low arts. Murakami’s wide spread fame derived from both his contributions to contemporary fine art and his commercial partnerships with designer Louis Vuitton and musical artist Kanye West.
The colorful display in Thompson Chicago’s lobby features two variations of Murakami prints from the exhibit, which showcases over three decades of the artist’s works, from his earliest paintings to never-before-seen work. The display will be featured for guests to admire throughout the summer.
