Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete hosted the 18th Annual DesignCare Gala benefitting the HollyRod Foundation on July 16 at the Estate of Sugar Ray Leonard. The star-studded event benefited those with Parkinson’s disease and autism with celebrity supporters including Bill Withers, Laila Ali, Alan Thicke, Jimmy Jam Harris, Jesse Jackson, Arsenio Hall, Garcelle Beauvais, Daisy Fuentes, Lorraine Toussant, Boris Kodjoe, Nicole Ari Parker and Essence Atkins.
Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul was honored for his work with The Chris Paul Family Foundation with the 2016 HollyRod Angel on the Path Award. Additional honorees included Laysha Ward (Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer of Target) with the 2016 HollyRod Corporate Compassion Award, Latonzia Montgomery (Mother of three children who have autism) with the HollyRod Autism Champion Award, and Kevin Keller (Board Member of Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism) with the HollyRod Autism Champion Award.
Guests enjoyed cocktails and silent auction bidding, followed by a buffet dinner and fashion show by designer Michael Costello, who cultivated a vibrant collection designed specifically for DesignCare 2016. The gala closed the night with live performances by exquisite songstress, the Grammy nominated, Ledisi and American Idol Finalist, Josh Ledet.
The HollyRod Foundation provides care and services to those living with autism and Parkinson’s disease, specifically to underserved individuals and families that are burdened financially and emotionally by a diagnosis.
