Rio Carnival

The 14 best Samba schools parade their exotic moves in the Preliminary Parades of the Second League Schools, along with the 12 best schools in the First League. On Fat Tuesday, the Children’s Samba Schools features children from each community of the best schools dancing throughout the extravagant parade. This event is free admission.
Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
The 2016 Summer Olympics will be hosted by no other than Rio de Janeiro from August 5-21. There is nothing more exciting than seeing a huge part of history happening in a thrilling city like Rio de Janeiro, where sports like soccer, basketball and volleyball are thoroughly enjoyed by the Brazilians. Barra da Tijuca will host most of the venues of the Olympic Games and the rest will be hosted in Copacabana Beach, Maracanã and Deodoro.
Christ the Redeemer
When you think of Rio de Janeiro, you think of a grandiose statue of Jesus Christ, standing at 98 ft. tall known as Christ the Redeemer, which is made from soapstone. It has been indexed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, representing Christianity across the world. It was constructed between 1922-1931 and created by French sculptor Paul Landowski. The panoramic views are stunning, but actually being at the sight will literally leave you breathless.
Sugarloaf Mountain
If you want to do some rock climbing in Rio, Sugarloaf Mountain is the peak to do it at. The mountain resembles the shape of traditional loafsugar and rises 1,299 ft. above the harbor. If you’re not into rock climbing and only want to see extraordinary views, there are two cable cars that take you up the mountain, presenting you with 360-degree views of the city.
Ipanema Beach
Ipanema beach became hugely popular by the song, “The Girl from Ipanema” which means “stinky lake.” This well-known beach is loved for its surf, social atmosphere and sophisticated development, which is filled with top-notch restaurants, shops and cafes.
Copacabana Beach
Barry Manilow’s acclaimed song “Copacabana” always had you dreaming you were at the vibrant Copacabana Beach. Located in Zona Sul, this famous beach runs 2.2 miles, filled with bars, restaurants, shops and beautiful people.
Escadaria Selaron
Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón created the “Escadaria Selaron” to honor his love for the Brazilian people. He began renovating the dingy steps in front of his house in 1990 and covered them with lively colors of blue, green, red and yellow. The world-famous steps have been featured in Snoops Dog’s music video “Beautiful”. His art will make you feel happy and alive once you witness his greatness.
Havaianas
You will live in flip-flops when you’re in Rio, so you must buy yourself a pair of Havaianas, the Brazilian people’s brand, which also makes a great souvenir to bring back. They are super comfortable and complimentary on anyone’s foot. They range from $15-$30 and can be found anywhere in Rio.
Feijoada
When it comes to food, “Feijoada” is THE dish to have, being Brazil’s National Dish. Feijoada is more than just a meal, it’s an experience. There are different Feijoadas, but most are filled with pork and different meats accompanied by rice and beans. You will find several restaurants offering this colorful and tasteful dish.
Iguazú Falls
The Iguazú Falls is known by many of its visitors as the world’s most beautiful waterfall. It’s located in Argentina, but the panoramic view (the best view) is seen from the Brazilian side. Not only do you get to enjoy the cascading waterfall, but you can also explore its surrounding jungle.
