Philanthropists and longtime collectors Edye and Eli Broad hosted two celeb-filled inaugural celebrations to kick off the opening of The Broad, L.A.’s newest contemporary art museum. Opening to the public on September 20, the pre-celebrations were filled with a star-studded guest list which included Bill Clinton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tobey Maguire, Owen Wilson, Val Kilmer, Kate Burton, Reese Witherspoon, Heidi Klum, Debbie Allen, Tim Allen, Ava DuVernay, Fran Drescher, Matthew Perry and Larry King who were all in attendance to celebrate the debut.
The Broad is home to 2,000 works of art in the Broad collection, which is among the most prominent holdings of postwar and contemporary art worldwide. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler, the 120,000-square-foot, $140-million building, is an artwork in itself with its honeycomb-like exterior and column-free exhibition space on the third floor. The Museum features two floors of gallery space to showcase The Broad’s comprehensive collection and is headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation’s worldwide lending library.
