Gold Meets Golden welcomed Hollywood’s top talent and highly decorated Olympic and Paralympic Athletes for its 7th annual event benefiting Angel City Sports. Held at the Virginia Robinson Gardens on January 4, the event brought together celebs and some of the greatest athletes from across the world to celebrate during Golden Globes weekend including Chris Evans, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Jon Voight, Rami Malek, Kristi Yamaguchi, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jasmine Sanders, Ibtihaj Muhammad and more.
Guests enjoyed a live performance by Globe-nominated Cynthia Erivo who performed John Lennon’s “Imagine”. X-Factor Star Emmanuel Kelly performed an emotional rendition of his single “Never Alone” with Wheelchair dance troup “the Rollettes”. Others celebs participated in a special Paralympic Tennis Demo with Gold Medalist David Wagner and children from charity Angel City Sports.
The concept for the daytime event began when athletes at the Olympic Games London 2012 were surprised by shout-outs from their favorite Hollywood celebrities, and several of those athletes were invited to Hollywood Awards season. The outcome was “Gold Meets Golden” – a chance for Gold Medalists and other athletes to engage with some of entertainment’s best award nominees, and realize how much they inspire one another.
Gold Meets Golden 2020 was presented by The Coca-Cola Company, the longest continuous corporate partner of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. The party saw Hollywood wish good luck to the athletes of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. The event benefited Angel City Sports, a Los Angeles organization that fosters young athletes with disabilities with the resources, coaching and equipment they need to train as future adaptive Paralympic hopefuls.
