Fox Sports Films premiered the latest installment of their critically acclaimed Magnify documentary series ‘They Fight’ hosted by Common on November 7 at Neuehouse in Hollywood. The star-studded affair included Cynthia Bailey, Theo James, Kid Ink and Style & Society’s Kinya Claiborne.
The documentary follows the rigorous journey of three young boxers, their coach, and their individual physical and emotional battles to get to the 2017 Junior Olympics. It is an outstanding documentary that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking as it showcases more than the world of junior boxing, but also spotlights important issues such as drug addiction, and the socioeconomic conditions of Washington D.C.
The film was produced by the multi-award winning rapper, producer, and actor Common and his production company Freedom Road Productions. On the red carpet Common expressed his love and gratitude for being able to work on the film, “I don’t think I knew how much joy it would bring me to produce. It’s fun to be able to step back and support other artists… it reminds me of the passion that I’ve had, and have, for what I do.”
Before the screening, Common and the film’s director Andrew Renzi welcomed the audience and discussed the importance of the project, as well as thanked those who were a major part of it including the documentary’s stars. Mike Hill from Fox Sport’s served as commentator for the post-screening panel that included the director, the young boys from the film, and the music director of the documentary; co-founder of the Atlanta based music label LVRN Justice Baiden who created original music for the film.
