LA’s biggest thoroughbred horse race day of the year, Kinya Claiborne, STYLE & SOCIETY editor-in-chief, joined the Santa Anita Derby as a judge in the Best-Dressed Fashion Contest in Santa Anita Park on April 14. Celebrating race day in style, contestants showcased their best derby day fashion including big hats, seersucker suits, spring dresses, fascinators, for the chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes.
Justify won Saturday’s 81st running of the $1 million Santa Anita Derby by 3 lengths over his toughest rival, Bolt d’Oro, setting a mark as the favorite for the Kentucky Derby. For more than 80 years, Santa Anita Park has set the stage for the most dramatic moments in thoroughbred racing, where legendary racehorses like Seabiscuit, American Pharoah and California Chrome crossed the finish line to victory.
