Italy’s most iconic landscapes take center stage on the Italy Hiking: Tuscany & Cinque Terre journey from EF Adventures, an education-based adventure travel company reshaping how travelers explore the world. Blending scenic routes with cultural immersion, the itinerary highlights rolling Tuscan hills, medieval villages and the dramatic cliffs of the Cinque Terre while introducing travelers to regional cuisine, local traditions and centuries of history.
Launched in 2024 as part of the EF World Journeys family of experiential travel brands, EF Adventures builds on more than 30 years of operational expertise from EF Education First. The company offers more than 40 guided tours across 25 countries and five continents with a focus on wellness-centered exploration, hands-on learning and responsible tourism. Travelers choose from hiking, biking, walking or multi-adventure itineraries featuring activities such as kayaking, yoga, e-biking and ziplining. Tours are classified into five activity levels, making it easy for travelers to pick the experience that matches their preferred pace.
The Tuscany and Cinque Terre itinerary reflects EF Adventures’ mission to blend activity with cultural depth. The experience begins in Florence with a walking tour that introduces Renaissance landmarks including the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria. From there the group travels into Val d’Orcia where scenic hikes connect postcard-worthy towns such as San Quirico, Pienza, Monticchiello and Montepulciano. Travelers enjoy a pecorino tasting in Pienza, an included lunch and wine tasting in Montepulciano and unhurried evenings to explore independently.
Immersion continues with guided visits to Siena and Monteriggioni before a hike around Greve in Chianti and an evening visit to the hilltop towers of San Gimignano. The journey then moves from Tuscany’s countryside to the Ligurian Riviera where travelers stay near Portovenere and set out on a full-day hike across the Cinque Terre’s famous cliffside trails. Terraced vineyards, panoramic sea views and colorful coastal villages showcase one of Europe’s most celebrated hiking regions.
The experience concludes along the coast with a scenic route from Camogli to Portofino via the historic monastery of San Fruttuoso, a secluded bay framed by cliffs and turquoise water. The trail continues toward Portofino with sweeping sea views before opening into the iconic harbor lined with pastel buildings. Travelers enjoy a relaxed afternoon exploring the village before gathering for a farewell dinner overlooking the waterfront.
EF Adventures designs its tours with boutique lodging, regional cuisine, knowledgeable Tour Directors and thoughtfully planned pacing that balances movement with cultural discovery. Each property is selected for comfort, style and recovery-focused amenities such as spas, saunas or inviting outdoor spaces. Itineraries also prioritize sustainability by supporting local businesses and avoiding overcrowded areas.
As demand grows for adventure travel that combines physical activity with deeper cultural connection, EF Adventures is emerging as a standout operator. Its approach encourages travelers to explore iconic destinations with deeper intention and forge meaningful connections with the places and communities they visit.
