The 2024 Astra Film & Creative Arts Awards, hosted by the Hollywood Creative Alliance, concluded with dazzling ceremonies at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles on December 8, 2024. The event honored the brightest talents in film and creative arts, showcasing groundbreaking achievements and setting records in nominations and accolades. The Astra Awards brought together industry luminaries and emerging talents for an unforgettable celebration.
Universal Pictures’ Wicked dominated the awards with an unprecedented 20 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Cynthia Erivo), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande), and Best Director (Jon M. Chu). Following closely, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Dune: Part Two secured 16 nominations, while Netflix’s Emilia Pérez earned 11, solidifying their positions as cinematic powerhouses of the year. Other notable mentions included The Substance, Challengers, and Gladiator II.
The event also recognized exceptional contributors to the craft. Costume Designer Colleen Atwood was honored with the inaugural Artisan Icon Award, Composer Kris Bowers received the Artisan Achievement Award, and Cinematographer Giovanni Ribisi was awarded the Artisan Breakthrough Award.
The Astra Film Awards highlighted standout performances and achievements. Monica Barbaro, lauded for her role as Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown, received the Astra Breakthrough Award. Karla Sofía Gascón, whose transformative performance in Emilia Pérez broke new ground, was presented with the Astra Game Changer Award. Cinematographer Jomo Fray earned the Artisan Spotlight Award for his evocative work on Nickel Boys, and actress-turned-filmmaker Jennifer Esposito was recognized as Filmmaker on the Rise for her acclaimed feature Fresh Kills.
