The Beverly Wilshire sparkled a little brighter on Wednesday April 10th, as Hollywood celebrities and philanthropists gathered for the 25th anniversary of: “An Unforgettable Evening,” benefiting the Women’s Cancer Research Fund (WCRF). Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, the charity’s honorary chairs, welcomed the star-studded crowd for a night celebrating resilience, hope, and continued research for breast cancer.
The gala was expertly hosted by comedian Tig Notaro, who brought both warmth and wit to the proceedings. The evening was not only a fundraiser but also a platform to honor those who have made significant contributions to cancer research and advocacy. Actress Demi Moore received the Courage Award for her personal dedication and support of cancer research. In an emotional acceptance speech, Moore highlighted the collective spirit and bravery of the women who face this challenge, sharing stories of personal connections to the cause, including her Aunt Deanna, a breast cancer survivor.
Philanthropist Wallis Annenberg was presented with the Unsung Hero Award. In a generous gesture, Annenberg announced a $1 million donation to WCRF, furthering the impact of the evening. Additionally, a tribute video was unveiled, announcing a $500,000 pledge from actor Michael Douglas in memory of his late wife, Anne Douglas, who was a co-founder of the WCRF.
The event concluded with a breathtaking performance by the legendary Sting, who captivated the audience with his timeless hits, from “My One and Only Love” to “Every Breath You Take.” His performance was a fitting end to a night that celebrated hope, resilience, and the ongoing fight against cancer.
The event was attended by a host of celebrities who showed their support for this noble cause. Among the luminaries were Ashley Greene, Kathy Hilton, Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna, Lori Loughlin, Melanie Griffith, Rachel Zoe, and Sofia Vergara. Their presence underscored the community’s united front in the fight against cancer and highlighted the significant role of Hollywood in championing health and wellness initiatives.
Through “An Unforgettable Evening,” the Women’s Cancer Research Fund continues to shine a light on the critical need for funding and research to combat women’s cancers. The support from these events drives forward the potential for breakthroughs that can ultimately lead to a cancer-free future.
