Variety hosted its annual Inclusion Summit, presented by Mercedes-Benz featuring keynote speakers Chelsea Handler, Anita Hill, and Jordan Peele on November 1. The one-day summit, held at the Montage Beverly Hills, featured an elite gathering of leaders and innovators supporting film, TV, and digital media who discussed diversity in genders, disabilities, sexual identities, ethnicities, ages and more.
The Inclusion Summit featured a wide selection of panelists including Academy Award-winner Geena Davis, Lee Daniels, Byron Allen, Rowan Blanchard, John Singleton, Yvette Nicole Brown and others from top entertainment and consumer brands. Summit topics included Hollywood’s newfound voice for change, Latino entrepreneurship in the media industry, inclusive brand innovation, the future of inclusive storytelling, the fight for gender balance in the entertainment industry, and mentoring the entertainment and media industry.
“In light of the recent firing of Harvey Weinstein for multiple sexual harassment allegations, the entertainment industry needs to step up and help eradicate the abhorrent behavior and culture of enabling that has permeated Hollywood for decades,” said Claudia Eller, Variety’s Co-Editor-in-Chief. “Variety’s intention is to be a positive force for change and our Inclusion Summit facilitates that conversation.”
