The American Cancer Society raised $130,000 at their annual California Spirit 32 gourmet garden party on July 16 at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. Celebs in attendance included Fran Dresher and Andrew Firestone, who enjoyed tastings from LA’s top restaurants such as 71 Above, Ayara Luk, Barrel & Ashes, BOA Steakhouse, Bouchon Beverly Hills, Fig & Olive, Roku, and Wolfgang Puck Catering. Guests also sipped on libations by Lagunitas Brewing Company, Jim Palmer of Malibu Wines, Moraga Bel Air, Urban Press Winery, and more!

The event honored former Nanny star Fran Dresher with its annual Mission Award. Dresher is a uterine cancer survivor and US State Department public diplomacy envoy for women’s health. During the event, Dresher spoke about how her cancer diagnosis allowed her to rediscover a sense of meaning in her own life and how it has now made combating cancer and educating people about its causes her life’s work.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, was also honored and received the California Recognizing Excellence for Health Systems Award for its outstanding support of American Cancer Society patient services, cancer research, and public outreach for cancer prevention and early detection.

The American Cancer Society is the largest voluntary health organization, whose efforts have contributed to a 25% decline in the cancer death rate in the U.S. since 1991. These numbers are driven by less smoking, better treatments, and earlier detection. As the nation’s largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, the American Cancer Society helps to ensure people facing cancer have the help they need in continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, and more. Proceeds from California Spirit benefit the Society’s groundbreaking research, free patient, and caregiver services, and early detection and prevention education programs.
