The spirit of famed jazz pioneer Charlie ‘The Yardbird’ Parker lives on at The Parker Room, a newly opened bar and lounge with unique history on Hollywood’s famed Vine Street. The venue is the original location of Billy Berg’s which was one of the hottest jazz clubs in the country. Parker, a jazz icon who was instrumental in revolutionizing the way jazz music was written and performed, played his first ever West Coast show at what is now The Parker Room, in the mid 1940s.
Billy Berg’s was said to be one of the first jazz clubs in the country to allow African American and white musicians to play together on the same stage. The legendary Billie Holiday once threw an extravagant New Year’s Eve party at the club in 1949. Decorated with mementos and album covers from Charlie Parker’s career, as well as other jazz pioneers, including Ray Charles and Miles Davis, The Parker Room pays homage to a bygone era.
A full bar menu features specialty craft cocktails named after Parker and albums of that era, including the ‘Night in Tunisia’ and ‘The Yard Bird.’ Smaller menu items from the kitchen like hand cut fries, calamari, and ceviche are also featured. The Parker Room is a perfect place to relax, enjoy happy hour, have a light dinner, or drink with friends until closing time.
The Parker Room is operated by hospitality veterans Sam Martinez, David Allen, and Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez is the owner of Los Balcones, the Peruvian restaurant next door to The Parker Room, which has been LA’s go to stop for traditional Latin food for more than 12 years. Martinez and Allen formerly worked together at The District by Hannah An, STK, and Duplex on Third.
