With a superb return to the runway, Julia Clancey hosted a presentation of her SS17 collection at Style Fashion Week in Los Angeles on October 13 at the Pacific Design Center. Her collection took the viewers on a journey across time from old Hollywood to modern day glam. Guests were greeted upon entry to the Pacific Design Center’s courtyard. The scenery of the red green and blue buildings proved to be just as chic as the designers participating in the show.
The collection was inspired by Studio 54, consisting of all dance floor and red carpet essentials. The show began with some of Julia’s muted color palettes, sparkling, opulent gowns and kaftans that caught the light just right as the models walked down the runway. The mood of the show quickly shifted with the change of music, and guests were whisked back to the disco days of bold colored jumpsuits, plunging necklines, metallic hot pants, models on roller skates and all the drama that gown with a 20-foot train could bring.
Julia began her career as a fashion stylist in the music and advertising industries. She then ventured into accessory design, which came as a natural progression from her styling work, creating detailed pieces for editorial photoshoots. Her first piece of body jewelry was shot by Corrine Day for VOGUE UK. Her inspiration has deep seeded roots in both vintage and historical costume, and influenced by the art deco period as well her many world travels.
In 2010, Clancey launched her own private showroom in West Hollywood, offering a wide selection of evening and resort wear and accessories, catering to her loyal following of private clients and red carpet clientele. Julia recently launched a fully focused luxury lifestyle collection, consisting of voluminous kaftans, tops, robes, summer gowns with matching headscarves, jumpsuits, evening gowns and turbans. Her work has been worn by many celebrities including Megan Fox, Sienna Miller, Juliette Lewis and Dita Von Teese and has been featured in publications such as VOGUE, W Magazine, Grazia and ELLE.
