Artist Aaron Axelrod debuted the Dark Matter exhibit as part of a three-day multi-media exhibition at Barndall’s “Breaking Convention” Summer Soiree on July 15. Showcasing an exclusive preview of artwork, the exhibit took over Barnsdall Art Park cultural campus, which houses Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) and Frank Lloyd Wright’s UNESCO-nominated Hollyhock House.
Dealing in a vast array of mediums from painting to photography, as well as installation and video art, the presentation featured 40 pieces of art with 8 distinct themes including an inventive multi-media series. A provocative visual experience, art lovers were treated to works such as a Swarovski collaboration art piece containing 700,000 multi-color crystals as well as a Frozen Paint Series that depicts vibrant streams of paint captured in mid-air. Axelrod also debuted a Frank Lloyd Wright Hollyhock House projection-mapped masterpiece pairing vibrant visuals with a musical experience marking the first time this landmark has been part of a public art installation.
The Summer Soiree supported the Park’s ongoing work to nurture and promote the creative fabric of Los Angeles with its year-round programming, exhibitions and events. The event featured musical talent from DJ Clove and live musical performances under the stars from Treehouse to an award-winning violinist James Thompson. The cuisine was curated by some of Los Angeles’ most notable executive chefs from Terrine, Faith & Flower, Hanjip, and Viviane, four of Los Angeles’ top restaurants along with a curated cocktail menu by Grey Goose, Cazadores and Bombay Sapphire under Bombet Hospitality Group.
