Erin Foster, Sarah Foster, Alessandra Ambrosio and more flocked to the warm and rustic Norah Restaurant in West Hollywood to celebrate the launch of Words With Friends 2 on November 9. Sisters and besties Hilary and Haylie Duff hosted the event for the crossword-style, multi-player game they share a love for.
Throughout the evening, libations flowed as attendees gathered inside the dimly lit lounge. In keeping with the night’s “best friends” theme, tables were decorated with photo cubes that highlighted some of television’s most famous best friends—Monica and Rachel, the Sex and the City squad, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. At the far end of the space, two long tables were peppered with all the embroidery floss, BFF charms and tools guests would need to make their own friendship bracelets. There was also a station where partygoers could get bright and colorful matching tattoos, while others posed together in the Words With Friends photo booth.
Even the cocktails were themed. Take, “The BFF,” for example—a concoction that mixed vodka with pamplemousse liqueur, mezcal, lime, grapefruit, agave and sage. “The Bestie” toyed with serrano infused tequila, passion fruit, Strega and lemon. Not to mention, the best friend half-broken heart was reimagined in cookie form, with ballet-pink icing.
But most importantly, attendees were able to test drive the sequel to Words With Friends, and found a few things were different. The original version, which was highly popular when it was released back in 2009, once downloaded on a device, allowed players to look up their friends and take turns building words with rules that vaguely resemble Scrabble’s. The newest version adds new features to its predecessor, including an AI bot-powered Solo Challenge, team versus team Lightning Round and pop culture Social Dictionary, all of which were requested by ardent players.
