Celebrities, advocates, and families celebrated Safe Kids Day at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, California, on Sunday. The mission was to raise awareness and funds to support the life-saving work of Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit organization working to protect kids from preventable injuries. Celebs in attendance included Derek Fisher, Gunnar Peterson, Lisa Ling, Terri Seymour, Perez Hilton, and Tom Arnold.
Families enjoyed a magic show, a special educational petting zoo, and played in the pop-up skate park. The skate park allowed kids to try out their skills while getting educated about safety and helmet importance when skateboarding and bike riding. Parents learned about child safety in the kitchen with an oversized kitchen walk-through experience. The exercise gave parents a child’s perspective when they wander into the kitchen and face potential dangers.
With a goal of raising over $1 million, proceeds from Safe Kids Day support the local, state, and national programs of Safe Kids Worldwide. Preventable injuries are the number one cause of death for children in the United States. Safe Kids works with an extensive network to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings, and more. Since 1988, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 60 percent.
